Hyrcanis was a minor Lydian settlement whose civic coinage is so sparsely documented that the magistrates named in this very legend — Papianus and Glykон — are known to scholarship almost exclusively through surviving bronze issues of this type. The dual archon formula suggests a shared magistracy, an administrative arrangement attested in several small Lydian poleis but rarely preserved with this clarity.
