| Reverse description | Demeter, draped, standing facing left in the field, holding in her extended right hand a poppy and two ears of grain, and in her left hand a long vertical sceptre. The type reflects the agricultural associations of the Maeonian region and the prominence of Demeter in the religious iconography of Lydian civic coinage. The magistrate's legend ΕΠΙ ΑΙΛ ΝΕΩΝοϹ ΜΑΙοΝΩΝ is disposed around the figure, recording the name of the local magistrate Aelius Neon and the ethnic of the issuing city. The reverse field is heavily encrusted but the standing figure and her attributes are discernible. |
