Reverse description Demeter, the goddess of grain and harvest, depicted standing to the left in full-length figure, robed in chiton and himation. She holds a bundle of corn ears in her right hand and grasps a long torch with her left hand, both attributes emblematic of her divine dominion over agriculture and the fertility of the earth. The encircling Greek civic legend names the issuing city of Prusias ad Hypium. The reverse type reflects the importance of agricultural prosperity as a civic ideal promoted by the local mint during the joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus.
