| Obverse description | Radiate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing left, depicted from behind in a dynamic three-quarter rear view, with the figure bearing a spear over the right shoulder and a decorated shield on the left arm. The imperial effigy is rendered in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Bithynian civic coinage of the mid-third century AD. A circular legend surrounds the bust in the field, identifying the emperor by his full imperial titulature in Greek characters. |
