| Reverse description | Cupid (Eros) standing facing with head turned to the right, his winged figure rendered nude in the Hellenistic tradition. His right hand is extended downward over a small herm standing at his feet, an iconographic allusion to the god's dominion over desire and the protective cult image. The reverse legend, distributed around the field within a beaded border, identifies the issuing colony. The composition reflects the syncretistic religious sensibility of Roman provincial coinage in the Severan period. |
