Reverse description A prominent bunch of four ears of grain (wheat), tied together at the stems with a ribbon, occupies the central field, symbolising the agricultural prosperity of the Sardis region. The stalks fan outward in a stylised arrangement characteristic of provincial Lydian coinage. The encircling Greek legend proclaims the city's twice-neocorate status, a prestigious honour granted by Rome. The type reflects Sardis's civic pride during the reign of Philip I.
