| Reverse description | Dionysus standing facing, head turned to the left, his lower body draped in a himation. In his raised right hand he holds a cantharus, while his left arm rests upon a tall thyrsus. At his feet to the left crouches a panther, the god's sacred animal, a hallmark of Dionysiac iconography. The reverse legend ΝΥϹΑΕΩΝ ΔΙΟΝΥϹΟϹ in the field identifies both the deity and the issuing city of Nysa, whose civic identity was closely associated with the cult of Dionysus. |
