| Reverse description | Heracles (Hercules) standing to the right, his right arm raised behind his back in a characteristic resting pose, holding the Nemean lion's skin draped over his left arm and a club resting upon a rock at his side. The figure is rendered in the Hellenistic tradition common to provincial bronzes of Galatia, with the hero's musculature indicated in the die engraving. The colonial legend of Iconium surrounds the type in the field, with the abbreviated formula S R (Socia Romanorum) in the lower field or exergue. The reverse type reflects the mythological and civic pride of the Galatian colony. |
