| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, viewed from behind, with the radiate crown rendered in pronounced relief. The imperial effigy displays the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, consistent with provincial Roman military portraiture. The encircling Greek legend occupies the outer field, reading from left to right around the bust. The portrait style is characteristic of the eastern provincial workshop tradition, with relatively compact facial features and a youthful appearance befitting Gordian III. |
