Reverse description Athena, the civic deity and patron goddess closely associated with Tralles, depicted standing left in a frontal pose, clad in chiton and aegis. She rests her right hand upon a large round shield set on the ground at her side while her left hand holds an upright spear. The ethnic legend ΤΡΑΛΛΙΑΝΩΝ is distributed in the field to either side of the figure, identifying this issue as a civic bronze of the Trallians. The overall style is consistent with mid-third century provincial bronzes from the conventus of Ephesus.
