| Reverse description | Taurokathapsia scene depicting the mythological hero Thessalos leaping from a galloping horse onto a bull charging to the right, grasping the animal's head with both hands by means of a restraining band. This distinctive Thessalian imagery evokes the legendary founder of the region and the ancient practice of bull-leaping, long associated with Thessaly. The dynamic composition conveys vigorous movement and is a hallmark device of the Koinon of Thessaly coinage. The reverse legend naming the strategos Aristion is distributed around the scene. |
