Reverse description The cult statue of Athena Ilias stands facing right atop a short column to the left of the field, wearing a kalathos (cylindrical headdress), and depicted in the archaic xoanon style holding a transverse spear in one hand and a spindle in the other, referencing the sacred image venerated at Ilium. To the right, a cow walks to the left, an allusion to local religious sacrifice or civic identity. The ethnic legend ΙΛΙΕΩΝ (of the Ilians) appears in the reverse field, identifying the issuing city. The composition reflects the strong civic and religious pride of Ilium under the reign of Marcus Aurelius.
