Reverse description A quadriga — a four-horse chariot — depicted in motion to the right, an iconographic device borrowed from Roman imperial coinage alluding to the honors bestowed upon Agrippa by Emperor Caligula (Gaius Caesar). The Greek legend ΓΑΙΩ ΚΑΙCΑΡΙ (For Gaius Caesar) appears in the field or along the periphery, accompanied by the regnal date LΒ (Year 2), corresponding to 37/38 CE. The design reflects the close political relationship between Agrippa I and the Julio-Claudian imperial court. The reverse presents a heavily encrusted bronze surface with yellow-green patina obscuring some detail.
