Reverse description Dionysus, the god of wine, depicted standing in a relaxed contrapposto pose facing left. In his raised right hand he holds a cantharus (wine cup), while his left arm rests upon a tall thyrsus. At his feet to the left crouches a panther, his sacred animal, completing the Dionysiac iconographic program favored by the city of Magnesia ad Maeandrum on its civic bronze coinage. The ethnic legend ΜΑΓΝΗΤΩΝ appears in the field, identifying the issuing city.
