Obverse description Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed from behind to reveal the cuirass in three-quarter rear view. The imperial effigy is rendered in the provincial style typical of the Pergamene conventus, with the laureate wreath clearly delineated around the head. The encircling Greek legend names the emperor in his imperial titulature, running along the periphery of the flan.

Reverse description Zeus enthroned, seated to the left, his body rendered in frontal perspective with head turned left. In his extended right hand he holds a patera, symbol of sacrifice and divine authority, while his left hand grasps a long sceptre. The figure is depicted in the conventional Hellenistic tradition for this deity, with drapery falling over the lower body and throne. The civic ethnic legend of Stratonicea encircles the type in the field.
