| Obverse description | Veiled and draped bust of Boule personified, facing right, depicted as a mature female figure with veil drawn over the head and drapery over the shoulder. The legend ΙΕΡΑ ΒΟΥΛΗ ('Sacred Council') frames the bust, identifying the allegorical representation of the civic council of Aphrodisias. The portrait is rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of Carian civic coinage under the reign of Gordian III. |
