Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter perspective common to Edessan civic coinage. The radiate crown is visible atop the head, and the paludamentum drapes over the left shoulder. The surrounding field carries the Greek imperial titulature legend. The workmanship reflects the provincial Mesopotamian style of the mid-3rd century AD.

The portrait reflects the hybrid Greco-Parthian artistic tradition of Edessa, emphasizing the vassal king's eastern identity within the Roman sphere. The reverse legend in Greek identifies the ruler by name and royal title, flanking the bust in the field.
