Reverse description A serpent coiling to the right, its body forming a prominent S-curve or spiral, depicted in high relief against a plain field. The serpent motif is a common symbol of healing and civic well-being associated with Asclepius, frequently appearing on provincial coinage of Bithynia. The abbreviated civic legend of Nicomedia is distributed around the serpent in three parts. A beaded border frames the design.
