Reverse description A thunderbolt (fulmen) depicted centrally in the field, rendered as the canonical Jovian attribute with wings and zigzag lightning bolts radiating symmetrically. The surrounding Greek legend, distributed around the coin's periphery, references the proconsul Mindius Balbus and the metropolis designation with the abbreviation ΝΚΟ for Nicomedia. The reverse type, combining the thunderbolt with the proconsular titulature, is characteristic of civic bronze issues struck under Roman provincial administration in Bithynia during the reign of Claudius.
