Obverse description Bare head of the emperor Caligula (Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus) in profile, facing right, rendered in the naturalistic style typical of early Julio-Claudian provincial coinage. The portrait displays the characteristic features of Caligula with a clean-shaven face and short-cropped hair. A Latin legend curves around the periphery of the flan, reading C CAESAR AVGVST or variant. The field is plain, and the die is set on an irregularly shaped flan consistent with provincial bronze production at Corinth.
