Reverse description The sacred stag of Artemis, cult animal of the Ephesian sanctuary, stands in profile facing right with forelegs raised in a prancing posture. A quiver is depicted above the animal's back, referencing the divine attributes of Artemis Ephesia, the principal deity of the city. The reverse legend, distributed around the field in two parts, records the names of the civic magistrates responsible for the issue. The composition is set within a plain circular border, the style consistent with Ephesian civic bronze coinage of the Augustan period.
