Reverse description A serpent coiling to the right occupies the central field, its body forming a prominent spiral with the head raised, rendered in high relief characteristic of provincial bronze coinage of Bithynia. The encircling Greek legend NEIKAIEΩN identifies the issuing city of Nicaea. The flan edges are irregular and the surface retains an olive-green patina with some encrustation consistent with extended burial.
