Reverse description Athena, helmeted and in full standing figure, drives a slow quadriga to the right, holding the reins and a spear or sceptre. The four horses are rendered in animated low relief, their forelegs raised in a striding motion. The composition fills the field in the manner characteristic of Thessalian federal coinage of the imperial period. The reverse legend is distributed around the design, with the control letter Δ (delta, denoting a series or magistrate number) appearing in the lower field or exergue. The overall style reflects the civic pride of the Thessalian Koinon in its use of a prestigious Athenian divine motif.
