Obverse description Draped bust of Matidia Augusta facing right, wearing a diadem, her hair elaborately arranged in the dynastic style of the Trajanic court. The legend ΜΑΤΙΔΙΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ is inscribed in Greek characters around the bust within the field. The portraiture reflects the honorific status of Matidia as niece of Trajan and mother-in-law of Hadrian, rendered in the provincial die-engraving tradition of Phrygia.
