| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus (or possibly Tiberius), facing right, rendered in a somewhat coarse provincial style. A maeander (Greek key) pattern decorates the left field, serving as an ornamental border element typical of Lydian civic coinage. The legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ appears in the field, identifying the portrayed emperor by his honorific title. The portrait displays heavy facial features characteristic of the Sardis conventus bronze issues of the Julio-Claudian period. |
