| Reverse description | Full-length frontal cult statue of Aphrodite Aphrodisiensis, the distinctive xoanon-type idol of the city, standing erect on a base with arms extended and draped in the elaborate multi-register garment characteristic of this unique Carian deity. A star appears to the left of the figure and a crescent moon to the right, emphasizing the divine and celestial attributes of the goddess. The circular Greek legend ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝΙΟϹ ΑΦΡΟΔΙϹΙΕΩΝ ΥΙΟϹ, identifying the local magistrate Apollonios, son of the Aphrodisians, runs around the periphery of the coin. |
