Reverse description Three upright military standards displayed side by side within a rectangular frame or base, each staff surmounted by a wreath and adorned with multiple transverse discs or phalerae along the shaft. The standards are rendered in a schematic but recognisable provincial style. The Greek legend ΝΙΚΟΜΗΔΕΩΝ ΔΙϹ ΝΕΩΚ is distributed around the field, proclaiming the city of Nicomedia's status as twice neocorate. A dotted border encircles the entire design.
