| Reverse description | A garlanded and lighted altar is depicted in the central field, shown in three-quarter perspective with flame or ornament visible at the top and decorative garlands draped across its sides. The altar is rendered in stepped architectural form, resting on a base, consistent with civic religious iconography of Smyrnaean provincial coinage under Nero. The surrounding Greek legend ΕΠΙ ΙΕΡΩΝΥΜΟΥ names the magistrate Hieronymos, under whose authority the coin was issued. The type is enclosed within a beaded border on an irregularly shaped flan. |
