| Obverse description | Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered three-quarter from the rear, a presentation characteristic of later Severan provincial coinage. The radiate crown is clearly articulated above the imperial effigy, while the paludamentum and cuirass are visible at the shoulder. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust within a beaded border, the legends partially worn but traceable along the rim. The die work reflects the provincial style of the Mesopotamian mint at Edessa, with bold if somewhat coarse engraving typical of the period. |
