Reverse description A star set within a filleted crescent, the crescent resting upon a baetyl stone placed on a rectangular base or altar — the sacred cult symbol of the moon-god Sin worshipped at Carrhae. The reverse type is rendered in low relief on an irregular flan, with the Greek colonial legend distributed in the field around the central device. The image visible in this example is heavily worn, with the crescent and stone base discernible but the star and lettering largely effaced.
