Additional information

Corinth's colonial bronze issues under Domitian are among the least systematically catalogued of the Flavian provincial series. The truncated colonial title in the obverse legend — COL[ ] AVG COR — reflects either a die-cutter's abbreviation habit or damage to the reference specimen used for the type classification, and the ambiguity has persisted through successive catalogue editions. Corinth had held Roman colonial status since Julius Caesar's refoundation in 44 BC, and its mint remained active through the Flavian period producing small bronzes for local exchange rather than interregional commerce.
