| Obverse description | Draped bust of Manlia Scantilla facing left, her hair elaborately waved and piled atop the head in the fashionable Severan court style. The effigy is rendered in low to medium relief with a visible draping over the shoulder and chest. The encircling Greek legend reads ΜΑ ϹΚΑΝΤΙΛΛΑ ϹΕΒΑϹ, identifying her as Augusta, wife of Emperor Didius Julianus. The flan is irregular and slightly scalloped at the edge, typical of provincial bronze coinage of the period. |
