| Obverse description | Bare laureate head of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in the prevailing Julio-Claudian provincial portrait style. The effigy displays characteristic features of Claudius including a broad neck and slightly idealised facial profile. The circular Greek legend ΚΛΑΥΔΙΟΝ ΚΑΙϹΑΡΑ ϹΥΝΝΑΔΙϹ runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor and the issuing civic community of Synnada in Phrygia. |
