The bearded divine portrait is rendered in a conventional Hellenistic manner befitting a deity of healing. The encircling Greek legend names the civic authority and the magistrate responsible for the issue. The reverse composition reflects the close association of Cos with the medical arts and the Asclepian sanctuary. |
