Reverse description A tripod with a laurel branch prominently displayed at its center, a device commonly associated with Apollo and widely used on coinage of cities within the Apolline religious sphere. The tripod stands on three legs with a decorated bowl, the laurel branch rising vertically from within. The surrounding legend in three lines or arcing around the type reads ΛΥΝΚΕΥΣ ΦΙΛΟΠΑΤΡΙΣ ΙΕΡΑΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ, identifying the magistrate Lynkeus Philopatris and the issuing city of Hierapolis. The overall composition is typical of late first century BC Phrygian civic bronze coinage.
