| Obverse description | Turreted and draped bust of the Amazon Smyrna, the eponymous founder of the city, facing left. The bust is rendered in the local Ionian style typical of Provincial bronzes of the Antonine period. The mural crown (turreted headdress) is prominently depicted atop her head, symbolising the city's identity. The encircling Greek legend ϹΜΥΡΝΑ ΑΔΡΙΑΝΗ arcs around the field, identifying the city and acknowledging its Hadrianic title of honour. |
