| Reverse description | Cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus (Ephesia) standing facing, depicted in the canonical hieratic manner with multiple breast ornaments (or egg-shaped protuberances), arms extended and supported by lateral props, wearing a high kalathos (polos) upon her head. A stag stands at each side of the idol, serving as the goddess's sacred animals. The Greek ethnic legend ΑΝΚΥΡΑΝΩΝ (of the Ancyrans) is inscribed around the type, identifying the issuing civic authority. |
