Obverse description Cruciform monogram of Emperor Romanos II occupying the central field, formed by interlaced Greek letters composing the imperial name RWMANOS. The monogram is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude provincial style characteristic of the Cherson mint, with decorative terminals on the arms. The flat, irregular flan shows typical characteristics of locally struck Byzantine provincial coinage.
