| Obverse description | Youthful bare-headed bust of Commodus as Caesar, draped in paludamentum, facing right. The portrait exhibits the characteristic early physiognomy of Commodus as a young prince, with curly hair rendered in low relief. The encircling legend names him as Caesar with the Germanic epithet.
