Reverse description A ram advances to the right in the central field, rendered in the compact, stylised manner typical of Ionian provincial bronzes of the Severan era. The ram, a longstanding civic emblem of Colophon associated with the god Apollo, is depicted with naturalistically modelled fleece. The ethnic legend ΚΟΛΟΦΩΝΙΩΝ is inscribed around the field, identifying the issuing city. A ground line may appear beneath the animal.
