Syedra was a minor coastal city in eastern Cilicia, perched on a rocky promontory above the Mediterranean, and its civic bronze issues under Hadrian reflect the emperor's sustained engagement with the Greek East — he visited the region during his extensive provincial tours of the 120s and 130s. Cities along this stretch of coast seized on imperial visits and the broader philhellenism of his reign to assert civic identity through local bronze coinage, even at modest module.
The split ethnic legend across the field is a regional convention found in several Cilician issues of this period.
