Obverse description Bare-headed and draped bust of Antinous facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic manner characteristic of his posthumous divine portraiture. The youthful effigy displays the softly modeled facial features and full, slightly parted lips traditionally associated with representations of the deified favorite of Hadrian. The drapery is visible at the shoulder, adding a formal quality to the portrait. The encircling Greek legend ΑΝΤΙΝΟΟΝ ΘΕΟΝ identifies the subject as Antinous the God. The flan is somewhat irregular, with the portrait centrally placed within the field.
