Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the classical Greek provincial style. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful, idealized features associated with Augustan imagery as perpetuated in the coinage of Nicopolis. The circumferential legend ΑΥΓΟΥϹΤΟϹ encircles the effigy within the field. The flan is irregular and the surface heavily patinated with green encrustation consistent with prolonged burial.
