Obverse description Bare laureate head of the emperor Caligula (Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus) facing left, rendered in the provincial Greek style with defined facial features and a laurel wreath encircling the head. The bust is presented without drapery, with the neck truncation clearly visible. A circular Greek legend surrounds the effigy along the periphery of the flan, dedicating the issue to Gaius Caesar Augustus on behalf of the Axians of Crete.
