| Obverse description | Bare-headed, bearded bust of Heracles facing right, with characteristic curly hair and lion-skin draped over the shoulder, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of the Ephesian conventus. The Greek legend ΕΠ ΙΟΥΛ ΜΕΝΑΝΔΡΟΥ is disposed around the bust, referencing the local magistrate Iulius Menandros under whose authority the issue was struck. The portrait is executed in low relief consistent with small-module civic bronze coinage of the Antonine period. |
