Reverse description Eros, depicted as a small winged figure, rides astride a dolphin leaping to the right, a motif closely associated with the maritime iconography of Nicomedia and its position on the Propontis. The figure of Eros is shown in a dynamic pose, seated upon the arching body of the dolphin with the creature's head pointing forward to the right. This charming Hellenistic-inspired type was a common civic emblem on Bithynian bronze coinage. The Greek civic legend identifying Nicomedia as metropolis and first city of the province appears in the lower field and exergual area.
