Hieropolis-Castabala was a Cilician city whose civic coinage under the Antonine emperors reflects a community actively performing its loyalty to Rome while maintaining deep roots in the cult of Artemis Perasia, whose temple priestesses were famously said to walk barefoot across burning coals without injury. Provincial bronze of this weight and fabric from interior Cilicia circulated in a region that remained economically peripheral to the major coastal mints, making survival rates genuinely low. The reference IV.3#4975 places this within the standard SNG framework for the area, where attributed specimens remain thinly represented in major collections.
