Reverse description Full-length cult statue of Artemis Ephesia (Artemis of Ephesus) depicted standing facing, in the canonical xoanon type particular to this sanctuary. The goddess wears the distinctive high kalathos (polos) upon her head and is adorned with the characteristic multiple rows of ova or breast-like protrusions on her torso. Her arms are extended horizontally with supports beneath them, in the traditional attitude of the cult image. Flanking the idol to left and right stand two sacred stags, emblematic animals of the goddess, while the ethnic legend ΕΦΕϹΙΩΝ curves around in the field, identifying the issuing city of Ephesus.
