| Obverse description | Bare-headed or laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Saloninus (attributed tentatively), seen from behind and facing right, presented in the three-quarter rear view characteristic of mid-third century provincial portraiture. The legend surrounding the bust is partially legible and reads ΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟϹ Κ, interpreted as identifying the subject as a Caesar of the Valerian dynasty. The portrait style is consistent with Ephesian civic bronze coinage of the joint reign of Valerian I and Gallienus (AD 253–260). |

| Reverse description | Artemis in her role as huntress, standing and facing right, clad in short chiton, her left hand extended and holding a bow while her right hand reaches back over her shoulder to draw an arrow from the quiver secured there. At her feet to the left, a hound is depicted in a crouching or walking posture, serving as an attribute emblematic of the hunt. The peripheral legend reads ΕΦΕϹΙΩΝ, identifying the issuing civic authority as the Ephesians, and reflects the city's devotion to Artemis as its patron deity. |
