| Obverse description | Draped bust of Livia (Julia Augusta), depicted as ΣΕΒΑΣΤΗ (Augusta), facing right. The effigy shows the empress with elaborately coiffed hair rendered in the classicizing Julio-Claudian style, her drapery falling over the right shoulder. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΗ appears in the field, identifying the portrait as the deified or honored consort of Augustus and mother of Tiberius. The workmanship is typical of provincial Carian bronzes under the early Imperial period. |
